Why does not the dying urge to achieve the impossible die out with the passage of time. Sheer thought of invincibility to achieve that impossible dream keeps you down in the dusk, but then the first dream that creeps up with the passage of dawn creating the hopes of trampling over that impossible vision. Just like a compulsive trader keeps betting till he loses his shirt and then borrows to lose more hoping that someday his contra bets would rise up against the tide and get him back his past glory. Probably this habit of risk taking would explain the behaviour of traders at investment banks causing much agony to the banking world.
When Achilles was given the option of living a settled life, he chose a path of glory knowing that he might end up losing everything and even his life chose to beat the invincible. Every now and then the Achilles in us wakes up in our hearts amidst much pain to beat the monotony in our lives to seek glory or tread on the untravelled roads where every step could be questioned, challenged even when we have had the choice of continuing to lead the secure, tried and tested and much travelled path.
Even the fear of failure will not let you stop pursuing that bloody dream and I recently read the depression of failure is better than the depression of success. I would rather rephrase this as depression of mediocre failures is the worst than any other form. It doesnt cease to exist but it gets instilled on every corner of your conscious and subsconscious brain waiting for a trigger to explode.
Probably this is why we keep trying fighting against the demons within, constantly move our milestone a few miles ahead to reach somewhere we could coalesce with the invincible.
